Our farm is available for tours, alpaca walking, and use of 23 wooded acres with trails and stream. Schedule a tour online or call (703) 945-0766 to schedule some time on this magical alpaca farm. We are open year round, closing only for extreme weather.

Tours are scheduled at 11:00 a.m on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.  We schedule only one tour per day so that we can give you our complete and undivided attention during the time that you are here.  Children 0-6 years old are not charged for a farm visit.

So, pack a lunch to enjoy in one of our picnic areas after you've visited with our alpacas and explored the trails. Give yourself the gift of time apart in a relaxing environment. We look forward to sharing our farm way of life with you.

Farm Tours

We welcome visitors to our farm. Tours can be scheduled on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

Tours last 1½ to 2 hours and include meeting and hand feeding our alpacas, learning about the alpaca way of life and the many uses for their luxurious fiber. Add alpaca walking to your tour for the full experience of handling these gentle creatures as you lead them on a guided walk around pastures and along wooded trails. The tour ends in the studio with an optional demonstration of how the raw fiber is processed to prepare it for spinning into yarn. And in the farm store you’ll see lots of examples of wearable alpaca items for the whole family.

After the tour, there are 23 wooded acres with lots of trails to explore. And if you would like to bring a picnic lunch, there are three picnic areas for your use.

You should wear sturdy walking shoes appropriate for uneven ground that could be wet or muddy. No high heels, sandals or open-toe shoes.

Please call or email us so we can set up a time for your visit. We look forward to seeing you and having the opportunity to share our farm way of life with you.

Alpaca Walking

For an additional $10 per person you can add the joy of walking one of our alpacas on a lead. We have trained six of our male alpacas to walk with halter and lead. Since alpacas are herd animals, we always take at least three on a walk. If you have a larger group, we may have all six with us. This is a guided walk led by at least two of our employees. We start by walking around pastures, and if the alpacas are willing, we walk into the woods and down to the stream. The woods part of the walk is usually possible in cooler weather, but when the trees fill out with leaves and the woods become darker, only a few of our alpacas are willing to make the trip into the woods. Alpaca walks usually last 30-45 minutes.  Children must be at least 7 years old to walk an alpaca by themselves.

Trails

We have maintained trails through 23 wooded acres and along Ballenger Creek. See the trail map on the right. All trails are named, but we are still in the process of having name plates made for the trails. There are a variety of terrains to walk – some hilly, some moderate, some marshy. We close trails if they become unsafe or impassable due to flooding, weather, or tree damage, but reopen them as soon as they are safe for walking. (Please note that some of our trails are still blocked with downed trees. We are working steadily to get all of our trails opened for walking so you can enjoy the full experience of our wonderful farm.)

Picnic Areas

We have three picnic areas available for your use. You may bring your own lunch and beverages. No alcohol is permitted on the farm. There are seven picnic tables near the entrance to the farm yards, and four more picnic tables at the bottom of the hill just beyond the alpaca yards. All picnic areas are wooded. We ask that you keep the area clean and put trash in available trash cans, or carry it out with you when you leave.
